OK, some group rides are very small with only 3-6 bikes, and then there are group rides, like the Brightside Ride with several hundred bikes. Then you may have in between with 6-20 bikes, or maybe a few smaller groups to form a larger group at the end point. What do you prefer?

Last year we did the Hidden Hills Mystery ride and the large group certainly has an energy that you don't get otherwise, but when riding in a large group you have no idea of riding styles of the people around you and that can be a scary proposition. We did a ton of riding last year with my brother-in-law and we know exactly what to expect from him, so I would have to say a smaller group, for me anyway, is better, but that won't stop me from doing the big rides. You just can't duplicate that kind of energy and experience.

I've done both, the big groups to the small groups. The big groups can be fun but you have to watchout for the other guy. Smaller groups, even though you still need to keep your eyes open, you can relax a bit more. Go to Rolling Thunder in DC at the end of May, that is a large group!!!

I've been told every rider should do Rolling Thunder at least once. Haven't done it yet but hope to in the near future...
