Hi All,
I'm not even a biker yet - I'm looking around.
Went to a dealer this weekend to look around (Valley Motorsports). They had very few used bikes and not a ton of small new bikes yet. I'll probably be buying a used bike but I'm still wondering about the buying experience. Is it like a car dealer where the price is a bit flexible or is the price on the tag exactly what you pay?
I hope to buy privately and cut out the middleman, but I'm certainly open to the dealer route if that works out best. I know Ian and Chris had a great experience at Popoli's.

| in my amatuer opinion, it CAN be like a car dealership- they do have a price, but if they want to get rid of inventory, they can soften that a bit, depending on where you go. I had great luck buying a new Ducati at Valley Motorsports, and that is where I go for almost everything. |

Yeh, buying a motorcycle, whether dealer or private, there is usually room to wiggle. My son bought a bike here and was quite pleased with the service and price. This one may interest you.

just copy/paste into browser. They have a lot of bikes with low mileage for sale, with a wide range of sizes. No, I am not endorsing them, I do not work there, nor do I know anyone who does. Just that my son seemed to get a decent price on his bike, a Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic.

| Wow - that is a great selection! At least it would give me a bunch of bikes to sit on so I can narrow down what I'm looking for. Good to know about your son's positive experience there, too. |

As I mentioned, we had a good experience with Popoli as well. I know from experience that the listing on their site doesn't reflect their used inventory. They have many used bikes in the basement, all you have to do is tell them what you're looking for. This is similar to our 2004 which we love. Great starter bike that you won't outgrow too quickly. If you go in to Popoli, ask to speak to Brent and tell him Ian from coolbikerides.com sent you. Not that's probably worth the price of a cup of coffee but... Brent should know me but the owner certainly does. I've been bugging him to sponsor the site for a little while... I'm "friendly" with these folks due to our buying and service experiences there only. I don't work for them but love dealing with them.

BTW, great topic! If you haven't already, make sure you sign up for the PV Riders course this year. I already had riding experience but I took it with my wife last year and really enjoyed it. I learned some great techniques... I wouldn't let my 16 year old (who probably rides better than I do) on the road before taking the course.

I have to speak up for Popoli's as well. Mike (hubby) has been buying bikes from there for over 25 years. I find myself in the store very very often, spending money of course! I've gotten to know the people there by name and they know me. I like that. Hey, a girl has to have assessories! Anyway, any of the sales guys will be more than helpful. Tell them what your experience is in riding, what you are looking for and they will match you up just right. Just keep in mind you don't want to "out grow" your bike to quickly, so don't go too small. And keep in mind, there is always a little wiggle room.
